Vincent M. Tong - Student Member

Science is been the love of my life, ever since I was a child - I was always in my backyard overturning rocks to search for insects and spiders, helping my father maintain his garden, and making sure that the trees were healthy and growing.

I am actively pursuing a career in the field of environmental consulting and I am seeking to gain knowledge and experience through volunteering, networking, and helping out in any way possible.

My background consists of:

• Bachelor of Science from the University of BC - Life Science and Earth Science
• 7 years of experience in environmental, chemical, and semiconductor laboratories
• 4 years of management and customer service experience
• 15 years of computer expertise
• Experience in First Aid, WHMIS, and Health & Safety procedures
• Fluent in English, French and Cantonese

My career highlights include:

• Performing various analytical tests on soil samples that were contaminated by illegally dumped chemicals.
• Analyzing water samples to ensure that the chemicals used to fight the 2003 B.C. forest fires did not harm salmon eggs
• Preparing over 250 soil samples in 2 days; the typical turn-around-time is 2 weeks
• Scoring within the top 10% in a province-wide CAEAL Hg analytical test
• Training and certifying 8 coworkers who had no previous laboratory experience

I have been proactive in the industry as I am a member of BCEIA as well as being certified as an Environmental Professional in Training (EPt) from ECO Canada. I am also looking into training courses to be able to upgrade my skills in this field.

I am a strong supporter of environmental conservation and I am willing to do whatever it takes to pursue a career in this field.
