The Environmental Services Department is responsible for several functions critical to maintaining the quality of life within the region, including garbage collection and disposal, recycling, water supply and sewage treatment and disposal, and the operation of the public works associated with these services.

The Department leads the regional district in its Climate Change, Zero Waste and Drinking Water Protection initiatives. The Department’s goal is to provide Regional District of Nanaimo residents with an exceptional level of affordable service while maintaining a commitment to protect the environment we live in.
