Exciting Times for Rescan Environmental Services Award-Winning BCEIA Member Company Merges with ERM
BCEIA member, Rescan Environmental Services Ltd. (Rescan), one
of Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies has announced that it
has completed its merger with ERM, one of the world's leading
environmental and sustainability consultancies. Rescan will now
operate as Rescan, an ERM Group Company.
Both ERM and Rescan share a history of commitment to delivering
world-leading environmental management solutions to their clients,
spanning decades, industries and borders. Rescan enjoys an
international reputation for its work in the mining sector, and has
been active for more than 30 years in more than 50 countries on six
continents. Begun in 1971, ERM today operates 140 offices in 40
countries, with more than 4,700 employees and 2,000 clients,
representing 50 percent of the Global Fortune 500.
Rescan was founded by Clem Pelletier in 1981 and has become a BC
entrepreneurial success story. "Early in my career, I recognized
environmental assessment and protection would become a major
priority in permitting industrial development projects, here in
Canada and around the world," said Pelletier.
"We've built a very successful business by ensuring sound
environmental principles are embedded into our clients' resource
development projects. The results speak for themselves in the
number of permitted projects we've been privileged to work on."
Clem as a Partner in ERM will assume the role of President of the
new Rescan Environmental Services for Canada as well as Director of
the Company.
Rescan's integration into the ERM Group of companies will take
place over the next few months and Pierre Pelletier, Rescan's
former President and Chief Operating Officer, will manage the
transition and assume leadership of ERM's Canadian operations in
2013 as the Canadian Managing Partner. "This is an important
opportunity for Rescan and ERM", said Pelletier. "We now offer our
clients added benefits, including access to a broader range of
expertise, services and support across geographies and industry
sectors."
"Adding 170 plus Rescan staff to our business here in Canada
allows us serve our clients more effectively across our strategic
sectors: Mining, Oil & Gas and Power. The alignment of business
culture and technical capabilities is strong, and together, the sum
of the parts is clearly greater than the individual parts," said
David McArthur, ERM CEO Americas. "We now have 220 plus staff in
the Canadian market, and another 2,500 in the rest of the Americas,
and intend to continue grow the business as we always have -
serving our key clients across all of our practice offerings."
Just as exciting, Rescan has also just been named as
one of Canada's Top Employers for Young People for the second
straight year. First published in 2002, the Canada's Top Employers
for Young People competition is organized by the editors of
Canada's Top 100 Employers. This special designation recognizes the
employers that offer the nation's best benefits for younger
workers. The employers on this list are Canada's leaders in
attracting and retaining younger employees to their
organizations.
The organization also had an instrumental role
in the 2012 British Columbia Industrial Mineral
Mine Reclamation Award made to Quinto Mining Corporation at
the BC Mine Reclamation Symposium on September 19, 2012. The award
was for the exemplary work completed on the Lumby Quinto Mine site,
near Lumby, BC.
Dr. Susan Ames, head of Rescan's Reclamation and Mine Closure
Planning group, led the team that completed a
thorough site assessment, site clean-up, closure, and reclamation
of the former graphite/gold mine over a three year
period.
