Bruno Thielmann, Director of Land
Development, Wesgroup Properties LP
Bruno Thielmann has more than 30 years of experience in the
construction management and land development business. As the
Director of Land Development with Wesgroup Properties, Bruno's
innate ability to incorporate multiple perspectives into a unified
land-use vision is the key to Wesgroup's success. Involved early in
the development process, Bruno's approach to inclusive development
begins by meeting with government, business and local communities
to seek the common threads that unite each group's goals. With
extensive Brownfield expertise and the ability to distill complex
drivers into succinct deliverables, Bruno's involvement is critical
in transforming Wesgroup's challenging sites into vibrant,
sustainably designed, mixed-use communities in the path of
progress. Bruno will be speaking about opportunities, challenges
and successes that he has experienced in the re-development of
former service stations in Metro Vancouver.
Alan W. McCammon, MSc PGeo, Manager,
Remediation Assurance & Brownfields Land Remediation Section BC
Ministry of Environment
Alan McCammon is a member of the management team for the Land
Remediation (Contaminated Sites) Section of BC's Ministry of
Environment. His primary responsibilities focus on the areas of
Brownfield remediation and redevelopment, compliance/enforcement,
and environmental assessments involving contaminated sites. Alan
manages the Ministry of Environment's role in implementing the BC
Brownfield Renewal Strategy and will be talking about the
Brownfield regulatory framework as it relates to the interim use
and re-development of former service stations.
Tami Fur, Manager, Brownfield Implementation
(BC Brownfield Renewal Strategy), Ministry of Forests, Lands and
Natural Resource Operations
Ms. Fur is responsible for developing and implementing the BC
Brownfield Renewal Strategy, which aims to encourages Brownfield
redevelopment in BC through various education and capacity building
endeavours including the Brownfield Renewal Funding Program (which
to date, has awarded $4.2 million in funding to privately owned
Brownfield projects in 44 communities across BC). Tami will give an
overview of the projects, tools and programs created and delivered
by the BC Brownfield Renewal Strategy, which are of value to
consultants, local governments and Brownfield developers engaged in
finding solutions to the redevelopment of Brownfield sites.
Chris Reid, Director, Shifting Growth
Chris co-founded the registered non-profit Shifting Growth in
2011 to find creative approaches for establishing temporary growing
spaces on underutilized urban land. A LEED accredited professional
with a degree in Environmental Studies, Chris brings a holistic
understanding of environmental issues and opportunities at these
sites. Chris' presentation will address the perceived barriers of
establishing temporary community-based growing spaces on urban
Brownfields. Chris will also highlight the financial, social and
environmental benefits of creating these community growing spaces
as an interim use for former service station sites.
Tony Crossman, Partner, Miller Thomson
LLP
Tony Crossman is chair of Miller Thomson's National
Environmental Law Group, with his practice focus being on Western
Canada and the Yukon. Tony advises on all aspects of environmental
law - from corporate compliance and due diligence through to civil
and criminal / regulatory matters. He is listed as one Canada's
leading environmental lawyers and is a past chair of the Canadian
Bar Association's National Environment, Energy and Resources Law
section. Tony will talk about perceived and real legal liability
related to the interim use and re-development of former service
stations.

toolkit;
