BCEIA Hazardous Waste Management Project nearing completion

Newalta Corporation's Director of Government Relations Gary Webster, who also chairs the BCEIA Hazardous Waste Committee, reports that the first phase of the Association's work program to develop educational products to raise the level of public awareness for the proper management of hazardous wastes is nearing completion.

"We will soon make public a series of information pieces and other useful guides that will assist companies that generate, transport or manage hazardous waste materials with respect to compliance requirements with BC legislation," said Webster. "These information pieces have been under development for sometime, now," he added. "We are preparing to work with key stakeholders in the environmental business sector as well as with many industry sectors and public agencies to ensure that all those who are in anyway responsible for the generation, storage, transportation or processing of hazardous wastes are made aware of their responsibilities and directed to various support resources.

The next phase of the Project will be to ensure these tools are made available to all those who may generate hazardous waste are aware of their responsibility to properly manage hazardous waste to protect the health and safety of British Columbians and to protect our environment.

These information products have been developed as part of a cooperative endeavour between BCEIA and the BC Ministry of Environment, who provided a Conditional Grant to the Association for this purpose.
