Recycling Council receives a boost
VICTORIA - The B.C. government recently announced it is providing $100,000 to the Recycling Council of British Columbia's (RCBC) to support a recycling hotline and the 2007 RCBC annual conference.
"The Recycling Council of BC's hotline serves as the frontline support for questions related to recycling," Penner said. "Recycling helps conserve resources, creates jobs, and reduces waste and toxins that can enter the environment." The ministry has supported RCBC's hotline with $75,000 annually as a way to help British Columbians take advantage of the many recycling programs available in B.C.
"The ministry's support is vital," said RCBC executive director Brock Macdonald. "Over the last seven years, calls to the RCBC Hotline have more than doubled. We answered more than 130,000 waste and recycling related questions in 2006. In today's heightened awareness of environmental issues, we expect that growth to continue."
The Ministry of Environment is also providing $25,000 to help support the recycling council's annual conference. "The conference brings together people from government, industry and business to discuss ways to reduce waste and improve environmental management practices," Penner said. RCBC's activities support B.C.'s recycling businesses and industries, which contribute significantly to waste reduction and minimizing environmental impact.
